Tell us about a favorite client or project.

I first became excited about the intersection between real estate and energy when I represented a client in a methane capture facility in California. Our client developed a facility to capture methane released by cow manure at dairy farms and turn it into a renewable natural gas used for transportation.
If you weren't a tech lawyer, what would you do?

I try to be outdoors as much as possible. If I were not attorney, my days would be spent fly fishing.
What technology are you most excited to see develop?

With the expansion of AI, the digital infrastructure has exploded and will continue to do so over the next decade. The digital infrastructure developers are coming up with incredible new ways to utilize energy in the most efficient way possible. These developers will be a driving force behind new energy technologies that will not only benefit data centers but will also eventually benefit consumers directly.
What's the best advice you've ever received?

As a young attorney, one of my colleagues told me to always take advantage of any downtime and not hold onto a rigid work schedule. Now, if I have a gap in my work day, I may go work out, go fishing, do something fun with my kids, etc. You never know when you are going to be extremely busy, so always take advantage of those times when you're not.

I advise start-up and emerging growth companies, as well as a number of leading venture capital, growth equity, and private equity firms, in all areas of general corporate/securities law and in a variety of different transactions (ex. venture financings, growth equity financings, control transactions). My practice spans the entire corporate lifecycle, from inception to exit/liquidity, and includes work across a variety of industries, including biotech, pharma, AI, clean tech and software. In my prior legal life, I advised private equity, venture capital and hedge funds on all aspects of their fund operations, as well as institutional fund investors on their private fund and direct investments. My experience spans the entire private capital ecosystem, which allows me to understand the specific wants, needs, concerns and goals of all of the players operating in the ecosystem.

What inspires you about working with tech companies?

The energy radiating out of these companies and the ecosystem as a whole is infectious – it gives meaning to the work that we do to support our clients.
What inspired you to become an emerging companies and venture capital lawyer?

I pivoted practices in 2021 because I wanted to work with the founders, entrepreneurs, and investors who are (re-)shaping the world.
If you weren't a tech lawyer, what would you do?

I would own and operate a gym/brewery.
What is your ideal weekend?

Spending time with my wife and kids. There would also be some gym time, sports and beer/wine involved, but family first always.
If you could choose one superpower, what would it be?

Time travel.
What's your mantra?

Hard work beats talent when talent refuses to work hard.
