Joseph (“Joe”) Beach is a partner in the Charlotte office. He represents investment banks, large commercial banks, and asset managers in a broad range of securitization and structured finance transactions. His practice focuses primarily on collateralized loan obligations (CLOs) and leverage on corporate credits.

Joe has extensive experience across both broadly syndicated and middle market/private credit CLOs utilizing cash flow and static pool structures. He also has significant experience in securitizations of Small Business Administration (SBA) 7(a) loan pools. In addition, he represents multiple commercial banks in structured loan financings of middle market/private credit loans, capital call rights, trade receivables, equipment lease receivables, and venture debt.

Well-versed in the evolving regulatory landscape, Joe regularly advises on both U.S. and European securitization transactions. His work has been recognized through multiple award-winning deals for major financial institutions, and he is consistently ranked among leading capital markets lawyers by ILFR1000, Chambers Global, and Chambers USA. He was also named one of the “Ones to Watch” by Corporate LiveWire Legal Awards.

Joe is a frequent speaker at major industry conferences, including Opal’s European CLO Summit, ABS East, and IMN’s Conference on CLOs and Leveraged Loans, and is regularly sought out by leading publications for his insights.

Previously, Joe served as a Captain in the United States Army JAG. During his time in service, he was the Assistant General Counsel for Fiscal and International Law for the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

Joe received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Duke University School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. He received his B.A., cum laude, from Davidson College and an M.A. in International Relations from Duke University Graduate School.

    • Represented a major commercial bank in a dual structured loan facility backed initially by capital call rights to an Irish investment fund and ultimately by middle market loans originated by such fund.
    • Represented a leading investment bank as underwriter’s and issuer’s counsel in a series of novel “short term” CLOs with limited reinvestment periods.
    • Represented a large European bank in syndicating multiple existing structured loan facilities to a broad range of regional bank investors.
    • Represented a major bank in a secured bridge facility and a structured loan facility to facilitate the initial public offering of a business development company.
    • Represented a European bank in a multi-currency structured loan facility secured by distressed European debt.
