Orrick's Global Japan Practice is hosting a series of "Orrick Library" events, both offline and online, to explore legal issues in various fields in Japan as well as the United States, Asia and Europe. The next webinar will be held on Thursday, January 18 from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm (Japan time).
Recently, it was announced that the European Parliament and European Council have concluded negotiations to enact the world's first "EU AI Act", setting specific rules to regulate artificial intelligence (AI), reaching an agreement by the end of 2023. With a 2-year transition period before fully coming into force, it will allow companies to assess their systems and comply with the new act before it is fully implemented.
In this webinar, Dr. Christian Schröder, partner in Orrick’s Düsseldorf Office, and Yumiko Olsen, senior associate in Orrick’s Düsseldorf Office will provide an overview of the main principles and obligations under the AI Act, and the measures Japanese companies should take to comply with this new act as it may also have an impact on companies outside of the European Union.
