Three Orrick Lawyers Named Best of the Bar by Sacramento Business Journal

August.28.2015

Marc Levinson, McGregor Scott, and Michael Weed were named “Best of the Bar” by Sacramento Business Journal in its annual list highlighting outstanding lawyers in the greater Sacramento area. The list is compiled from peer nominations and then vetted by a panel of 20 well-known lawyers on a peer-review panel.

“We are honored to be part of the Sacramento legal community and to have three members of our team on this list.” said Julie Totten, Orrick’s Sacramento Office Leader.

Restructuring partner Marc Levinson concentrates on insolvency planning, bankruptcy cases, out-of-court reorganizations and workouts. He recently advised the City of Stockton on their Chapter 9 filing, the largest California city to seek bankruptcy relief. Marc and the Orrick team’s work for the City generated multiple precedent-setting opinions relating to limits on the powers of a bankruptcy court to direct a municipality’s governmental decisions in a Chapter 9 case.

Greg is deputy leader of the White Collar Defense & Corporate Investigations Practice Group and an experienced trial lawyer representing major companies across industries including health care, retail and construction that are facing government investigations. A former United States Attorney for the Eastern District of California, Greg has nearly 20 years of experience as a prosecutor, and has tried approximately 100 cases to jury verdict.

Litigation partner Mike Weed Mike advises on commercial contract and business disputes, trade secret misappropriation, false advertising and unfair business practices, environmental compliance and litigation, Proposition 65, and administrative enforcement proceedings.

Greg and Mike recently achieved an outstanding result for Sierra Railroad Company, a short-line rail operator in Northern California, in its trade secrets misappropriation case against Patriot Rail Corporation. The total award is one of the largest jury awards in the Eastern District of California in the last 30 years and the result was recognized by the National Law Journal, Daily Journal and Law360 as one of the top defense and trade secret verdicts in 2014.
