Joel focuses on international arbitration (both commercial and investor-state) and commercial litigation in the English High Court. He advises clients across a variety of sectors, including the energy (both traditional and renewable), technology and financial services sectors.
Joel works on cases with a multijurisdictional focus and has represented clients from across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America in disputes seated around the world.
He has also acted for several professional services firms in connection with cross-border litigation, investigations and regulatory enforcement matters.
Joel also acts for sovereign states in actions brought against them. His practice represents clients in all stages of disputes – from pleadings to trial including advising in relation to alternative dispute resolution methods.
Acting for a Mauritian investor in bilateral investment treaty claims against India, in relation to the cancellation of telecoms licences.
Representing an industrial gas company in an ICC arbitration arising from the construction of a helium liquefaction plant, involving complex claims relating to delay, disruption, completion costs, defects and project performance.
Representing a European mining company in a dispute with two East African companies arising from mining sub-contract.
Air Berlin plc (in insolvency administration) & anr v [Big 4 Accounting Firm]: defending Big 4 Accounting Firm in a €450m claim brought by the liquidator of Air Berlin.
