Orrick and the Japanese Ministry of Justice (MOJ) will co-host a mock arbitration/mediation in Tokyo on May 25. The simulated hearing is designed to help the Japanese business community better understand the effectiveness of arbitration as a dispute resolution mechanism – particularly as new international arbitration centers will open in Tokyo and Kyoto this year. The mock, the first hosted by the government with an international law firm, involves a case of international dispute over intellectual property. The Orrick team is led by Yoshi Takatori in Tokyo and includes Charles Adams and Vanessa Liborio from Geneva, Siegfried Elsing from Dusseldorf, Alex Chachkes from New York and Charles Allen from Hong Kong.
Additional sponsors include Japan Arbitrators Association (JAA), Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Japan Chapter, Japan In-House Lawyers Association, Japan Association of Arbitrators, International Chamber of Commerce, Doshisha University International Trade and Legal Research Center and Keio University Law School. The event is expected to attract about 300 professionals and will take place in the building where JAA will open its new International Arbitration Center.
