Capital Markets

Our team advises UK and global public and late stage private companies, entrepreneurs and underwriters on accessing international capital markets. Offering a combination of English and US law we guide our clients through debt and equity issues, including IPOs and secondary fundraisings on the Main Market and AIM, as well as private placements and domiciliation for the purposes of fundraising.

Our experienced team offers innovative solutions on complex, cross-border matters involving merger control and clearance aspects of transactions, private damages actions, behavioural cases and investigations. We are a leading authority on private damages actions and advised on the first private antitrust damages action to reach trial in the UK. In collaboration with our Brussels office, we regularly appear before the European Commission and the Competition and Markets Authority.

Pro Bono Leader

Our London office is a leading example of our firm-wide commitment to making a social impact through our award-winning pro bono practice. Each year close to 100% of our lawyers contribute at least 20 hours of pro bono (and many much more!) and Law.com/AmLaw has consistently ranked Orrick in the top #5 for Pro Bono internationally since 2021. We not only provide charities and social enterprises with legal advice and assistance, but also run a significant number of ongoing access to justice pro bono projects assisting vulnerable individuals in our local community. We run these in partnership with law centres and legal NGOs that provide comprehensive training and supervision, so we are able to help with a wide range of issues, for example supporting adults with learning disabilities and mental health difficulties with welfare benefits tribunal appeals and charging disputes; advocating for terminally ill children and their families in areas of social housing and community care; and preparing exceptional case funding and family reunion applications for asylum seekers and refugees. Our lawyers can also get involved in interesting regional and international projects, such as supporting NGOs to complete applications to the European Court of Human Rights.
