Gohshun Kawamura is a senior associate in Orrick’s Tokyo office and a member of the Energy and Infrastructure Group.

He focuses on the development, acquisition and financing of solar, wind and other renewable energy projects in various regions of Japan. He has experience related to the FIT/FIP system and other laws and regulations related to the electric power industry, as well as negotiations with relevant government agencies, and the preparation and negotiations of related contracts.

In addition, he is involved in establishing schemes and negotiating contracts for the corporate PPAs of non-FIT renewable energy projects, as well as preparing on-site PPAs and general terms and conditions for electricity retailers.

He is the co-author of Orrick’s “Japan Renewables Alert".

Prior to joining Orrick Tokyo Office, he was an assistant judge at the Tokyo District Court and the Matsuyama District Court, where he gained experiences in a variety of cases, including civil, administrative and criminal matters.

    • Involved in the sale of Pattern Energy Group LP’s directly-owned Japanese assets and 100% of its interest in Green Power Investment Corporation to NTT Anode Energy Corporation and JERA Co., Inc. This is the largest deal ever for a renewable energy company in Japan.
    • Negotiated and advised on the contracts related to the development and sale of several large-scale solar projects by a Japanese subsidiary of an Asian company. 
    • Involved in the acquisition and financing of a solar power plant in the Tohoku region in Japan by a European investor, including handling due diligence and negotiations of related contracts.
    • Negotiated on contracts and provided due diligence in relation to a U.S.-based renewable energy company's sale of multiple mega-solar projects located in Japan.
    • Provided advice to a U.S.-based renewable energy company in relation to their financing contracts for solar projects.
    • Provided due diligence for the project finance, acquisition/sales matters of numerous solar and wind projects.
    • Provided advice to numerous foreign and domestic companies in relation to the development, PPA arrangements of solar and wind power plants in Japan.
