Ocean Winds has secured approximately EUR 2 billion of project financing from a consortium of international financial institutions (including the European Investment Bank and the Instituto de Crédito Oficial), 13 commercial banks (both international and local) and hedge providers to develop the up to 390 MW BC Wind offshore wind farm in Poland.

This landmark project is one of the first large-scale offshore wind projects in the Baltic region, and Ocean Winds' inaugural project in Poland.

Orrick advised Ocean Winds on the transaction as international counsel, with Rymarz Zdort Maruta as Polish counsel.

THE COMPANY

Ocean Winds, a global leader in offshore wind development, is a 50-50 joint venture of EDP Renewables and ENGIE. The company has a growing portfolio across Europe, Asia and the Americas, with nearly 3.5 GW of offshore wind capacity in operation or under construction, and over 15GW in development (with secured development rights).

BC Wind is the company's first project in Poland and is supported by a 25-year Contract for Difference awarded by Poland's Energy Regulatory Office.

THE IMPACT

Once operational, BC Wind will be among the first offshore wind projects to be completed in Poland, powering nearly 500,000 Polish homes and supporting the country's energy transition and alignment with EU climate targets. The project is expected to catalyse further investment in Polish renewables, strengthen local supply chains and create new jobs in the region.

"Ocean Winds' BC Wind project sets a new benchmark for offshore wind financing in Poland. We are thrilled to have worked with the phenomenal team at Ocean Winds, together with RZM (as Polish counsel) and Crédit Agricole CIB (as financial advisor), while also building on Orrick's continued track-record of delivering offshore wind project financings around the world," said Adam Smith, Orrick partner.

THE TEAM

The Orrick team was led by Adam Smith and included Albert Yu, Jon Thursby, Oliver Sikora and Milo Dunne, with valued support from Sarah Stockley, Deska Widianto, Gregoire Piat, Sara Little and James Labovitch.
