  • Anna Aryankalayil will join the firm Nov. 14 as a partner in our Antitrust and Competition practice
  • Until recently, Anna served as attorney adviser to former Commissioner Noah Phillips of the Federal Trade Commission. She focuses on antitrust regulation for the tech, life sciences, and energy sectors, including M&A clearance and litigation, government conduct investigations and compliance
  • She is Orrick’s 14th hire in DC since the beginning of 2021, including the addition this year of antitrust partners Eileen Cole and Craig Falls

“Our Tech and Life Sciences clients are innovating in an environment of antitrust regulatory scrutiny unmatched in the past half century,” observed Orrick Chair Mitch Zuklie. “Anna is uniquely positioned in terms of skill, experience and judgment to provide them with forward looking, creative counsel to navigate this high-risk regulatory environment.”

“At a moment when the Biden Administration has clearly stepped up its antitrust scrutiny on the tech sector, Anna offers our clients the freshest possible insights into the Federal Trade Commission’s priorities and approaches,” added Jay Jurata, head of Orrick’s antitrust practice. “She’s a rising star and a terrific cultural fit and we could not be more excited to collaborate with her.”

“The antitrust regulatory landscape is shifting right before our eyes,” Anna said. “Orrick provides a great opportunity to join a strong antitrust team and to advise an incredible roster of leading tech companies during this period of change. It was an honor to serve as an adviser to Commissioner Phillips and to learn from the dedicated public servants at the FTC. I am thrilled to begin the next chapter of my career at one of the most innovative law firms in the world."

Prior to her role at the FTC, Anna was in private practice at Dechert, where she worked with Craig for nearly seven years, advising clients on complex mergers and other high stakes antitrust matters, and litigated merger challenges against the FTC and the Department of Justice Antitrust Division. Anna is active in the leadership of the ABA’s Antitrust Section, currently serving as Vice Chair of the Mergers and Acquisitions Committee.

Orrick acts for half of the Fortune 20 Technology companies, 3,700 venture-backed companies, including 90+ unicorns; and more than 500 life sciences companies.  The firm ranked top 15 globally for M&A deal volume in 2021 by Mergermarket, having advised on over 235 transactions.
