Law360 highlighted Orrick’s work the past year shaping sports betting legislation around the nation in this feature, which cites successful efforts in New York, Arizona and elsewhere in recognizing the firm as a 2021 Sports & Betting Practice Group of the Year. This is the second time Orrick has been recognized in this category.

Partner Jeremy Kudon, head of our public policy practice, explained the innovative approach employed to legalize sports betting in New York, capping three years of work on behalf of professional sports leagues and the fantasy sports industry. "We spent three years meeting with the governor's office and other legislators in Albany to educate them about this and to argue the merits of this legal position," Jeremy told the publication. "So it seems like it was worth the effort."

Law360 also noted the “success story” in Arizona, where our team helped the state navigate the challenges of tribal-state gaming compacts. Partner Scott Ward, a member of our public policy practice, predicted Arizona could serve as a blueprint in other states.

"We're hoping that Arizona is a model that Minnesota, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, California and other states will follow," Scott said.
