Vigorous Advocacy for Pro Bono Client Yields Positive Outcome

April.10.2014

Davin Stockwell and Steven Yoda favorably settled a hard-fought litigation for their client, a low-income homeowner, who is in her late 60s, works full-time, has lived in her home for almost 30 years and faced mounting legal action from her Home Owner Association (HOA).

The client and her HOA have had disputes around the client's payments over an extended period of time, which resulted in the HOA bringing their second legal action against the client last year, seeking to enforce a lien on her property for allegedly past due assessments. Among the difficulties the client had with the HOA was its failure to properly credit her payments.

Only through very vigorous advocacy, including aggressively pursuing discovery, were Davin and Steven able to resolve the case with the client escaping a significant amount of the financial obligations the HOA alleged the client owed. The case also involved Davin having to hold client meetings in the loading dock of our building since the client works as a messenger and had little time to meet for extended client meetings.

"I could not have asked for a better pair of attorneys than Davin and Steve," noted the client. "Their professionalism is unmatched. Davin was incredibly dedicated to my case, leaving no stone unturned. I am grateful to Davin and Orrick for their excellent advocacy for me. I can now move forward with my life without the cloud of my long-standing dispute with the HOA hanging over me."
