This month, President Trump signed a new AI executive order, “Ensuring a National Policy Framework for Artificial Intelligence,” granting the Attorney General power to sue states over AI regulations that the AG deems unconstitutional. Read more: 5 Things to Know About Trump’s AI Executive Order.

A group of state AGs announced a nationwide, bipartisan task force in partnership with major AI developers, aiming to proactively address emerging risks tied to AI technologies, reflecting their concern that AI is evolving while existing laws and federal regulation may be too slow or lacking, especially around issues like deepfakes, voice fraud, deceptive content and other harms. Which AI state laws go into effect in 2026?
The press has reported that the White House is preparing to issue an executive order establishing a federal AI policy framework designed to preempt conflicting state regulations through several mechanisms, including a federal task force to evaluate existing state laws on AI and challenge any laws deemed as violating First Amendment protections.
The PA Senate has been advancing bill SB 1090, the “Safeguarding Adolescents from Exploitative Chatbots and Harmful AI Technology Act,” which would require companies to implement disclosures and safeguards, such as reminders to take a break every three hours, prevent sexual content, and a protocol to prevent it from producing suicidal or harmful content.
