We are pleased to announce that we have acted as advisor to Daiwa Energy & Infrastructure Co., Ltd. (“DEI”) on two significant energy storage transactions in Texas, USA.

In the first transaction, DEI made a joint investment—together with Excelsior Energy Capital and several other investors, including Japanese enterprises—in a 200MW grid-scale battery storage project located in Texas with commercial operations expected in the first half of 2026.

In the second transaction, DEI acquired a 100% ownership interest in a grid-scale battery storage portfolio (totalling 30MW) in Texas from a major local energy company, marking DEI’s first fully owned project in the United States. Commercial operations are scheduled to commence in February 2026, with a planned project duration of 20 years.

The cross-border Orrick team that advised the client on these landmark transactions was led by Paul Zarnowiecki, Minako Wakabayashi and Neil Golden, with close support provided by the cross-border energy team in the U.S. and Japan, including Andrew Hughes, Daniel Yost, Mason Harry, Bart Kempf, Joe Lawlor, Cory Lankford, Jeanine P.
