Orrick was featured today as one of The Recorder’s Tech Litigation Department of the Year finalists, recognized for major courtroom wins for tech industry leaders Microsoft, Twitter, PayPal and Micron. The winner will be chosen on Nov. 6 from six firms on the list of finalists as part of the publication’s California Leaders in Tech Law & Innovation awards.
In this Q&A, partner Jessica Perry, Orrick’s global head of litigation, discussed how our litigation practice is navigating changing trends in litigation and what our clients can expect when they engage an Orrick litigation team to handle their toughest challenges.
“We’re going to invest our time in listening to your goals, learning about your business and the problem you are facing, and work together with you to define a path to achieve your objective,” Jess said.
Asked about the changing landscape in business litigation, Jess identified three areas where Orrick is adapting – focusing on more complex matters to bring something distinctive and valuable to a problem; creating opportunities for diverse and women litigators to lead trial teams; and innovating with new technologies, platforms and roles to bring more efficiencies to largescale litigation.
The Recorder feature cited last year’s wins for Microsoft and Twitter, in which a team led by partner Lynne Hermle and Jess succeeded in turning away bids to certify class actions in two of the most closely-watched gender discrimination cases in the tech industry. The publication also recognized partner Jim Kramer for leading teams that successfully defended securities class actions against PayPal, and partners Jared Bobrow and Jason Lang for a string of wins in patent litigation for semiconductor leader Micron.
