Kevin Askew, a senior associate in Orrick’s Los Angeles office, is a securities litigator. He represents companies, officers and directors in securities class actions, shareholder derivative suits, and other complex business litigation matters. Kevin also has substantial experience representing financial institutions, issuers and individuals in connection with SEC investigations and enforcement actions.

Kevin has litigated matters in state and federal courts around the country, in arbitration, in administrative proceedings, and on appeal.

Kevin has also devoted a significant portion of his time to pro bono matters. Public Counsel’s Immigrants’ Rights Project awarded Kevin its 2016 Pro Bono Award in recognition of his representation of an asylum seeker in a long-running matter.

Kevin has published articles on securities-related topics in the Daily Journal, the National Law Journal, Bloomberg BNA, and other publications.

  • Kevin’s notable engagements include:

    • Represented a municipal official in connection with an SEC enforcement action in federal court. After hard-fought litigation, the SEC agreed to voluntarily dismiss its claim against the official.

    • Represented national recycling company and its executives in a securities class action, obtaining the dismissal of all claims with prejudice.

    • Represented semiconductor company in securities class action and related shareholder derivative action.

    • Represented the former president of the nation’s largest mortgage lender in various securities-related lawsuits.

    • Represented the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of a telecommunications company in connection with an SEC enforcement action involving accounting issues. Represented Chief Financial Officer in follow-on disciplinary proceedings before the California Board of Accountancy.

    • Representing founder and former CEO of automotive manufacturer in securities action.
