September.14.2018

On September 12, 2018, Orrick’s San Francisco office hosted the California Energy Storage Alliance’s (CESA) official affiliate event to Governor Jerry Brown’s Global Climate Action Summit. The program was titled “Energy Storage – The Bridge to a Clean Energy Future” and brought together various clients, project developers, regulators, legislators and others to discuss the growing role energy storage will continue to play in California’s energy market. The panels also focused on how California energy developers will collaborate with international producers and regulators, and offered commentary from two current commissioners on Mexico’s Comision Reguladora de Energia.

Orrick partner David Spielberg was approached by CESA to host the event, while partner Les Sherman delivered remarks to the audience. He was followed by three panels which included California State Senators Nancy Skinner and Scott Wiener; Vice Present of Energy Procurement & Management for Southern California Edison, Colin Cushnie; and Ed Randolph, the current Energy Division Director for the California Public Utilities Commission, among many others. The event brought more than 100 attendees to the San Francisco office, and was followed by a networking wine reception.

This summit will be followed by Orrick and Infocast’s collaborative “The New Boom in Solar + Battery Storage: Things are Heating up!” webinar scheduled for Thursday, September 20th at 1:00 pm EDT. The webinar will feature a panel including Les Sherman, partner Rohit Sachdev, Greg Brehm of Marin Clean Energy, and Fleming Ray of DNV GL.

CESA is a 501c(6) membership-based advocacy group committed to advancing the role of energy storage in the electric power sector through policy development, education, outreach, and research.
