Sonia Valdez's practice focuses on complex intellectual property litigation for internet and high technology companies. Ms. Valdez has represented clients before state, federal, and appellate courts, and has experience with arbitration, mediation, and confidential dispute resolution before the National Advertising Board.  A representative sample of her cases includes:

  • Tekmira Pharmaceuticals Corp. and Protiva Biotherapeutics, Inc. v. Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Alcana Technologies, Inc. Sonia was a member of the trial team that represented Tekmira and Protiva in a case before the Business Litigation Section of Massachusetts state court. Tekmira and Protiva alleged misappropriation of trade secrets relating to lipid-based siRNA delivery technology, along with claims of breach of contract and unfair competition.
  • Oracle Corp. et al. v. DrugLogic, Inc. Sonia was a member of the trial team representing Oracle in a case in the Northern District of California. This case involved several software patents related to adverse events in the pharmaceutical industry. Claims include patent infringement, breach of contract, and fraud.

In addition to litigation work, Ms. Valdez counsels companies ranging from market leaders to start-ups on intellectual property matters.  She is also actively engaged in pro bono matters and leads the Silicon Valley Office's Lean In initiative.
