Yiping (Sophia) Shen, an associate in Orrick’s Shanghai office, is a member of the Intellectual Property (IP) group.

Sophia’s practice focuses on IP-related legal advice and litigation. She advises regional and international clients on their IP issues related to both cross-border disputes and transactions.

Sophia focuses on defending Chinese companies in patent and trademark litigation before various U.S. District Courts, as well as Section 337 U.S. International Trade Commission investigations.

She has experience in patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret-related matters, responsible for providing legal counseling, conducting due diligence and legal research, and drafting business contracts.

    • Defending a Chinese client in a trademark infringement litigation at the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington and opposition procedure in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
    • Successfully defended Chinese companies in a U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) Section 337 Investigation (337-TA-1149) concerning certain semiconductor devices, integrated circuits and consumer products containing the same.
    • Successfully defended multiple telecommunication clients in multiple patent infringement litigations before different U.S. District Courts.
    • Assisted a medical device client in patent infringement cases filed by an international medical device company at the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware and at the District Court of Dusseldorf, Germany.
    • Successfully defended a Chinese client in trademark infringement litigation at the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada.
    • Successfully defended a Chinese client in an ITC Section 337 investigation (337-TA-1123) involving alleged infringement of patents relating to certain carburetors and products.
    • Successfully defended multiple Chinese companies in an ITC Section 337 investigation (337-TA-1114) involving alleged infringement of patents relating to certain modular LED display panels and components.
    • Supported a software company in trademark applications, cancellations, transfer and assignment matters.
    • Assisted multiple clients in international arbitrations on commercial disputes.
    • Advised an electronic components company on trade secret protection in the United States.
