Law360 Names Orrick to Pro Bono All Stars List

August.24.2015

Orrick has been named to Law360’s 2015 list of Pro Bono All Stars for its "exceptionally stalwart commitment to pro bono work year after year and its dedicating substantial resources over the past half-decade to impactful cases crucial to the public good."

Orrick pro bono counsel Rene Kathawala told Law360 that his role is to help match the firm’s attorneys with engagements that they are passionate about.

“That results in our taking on some very significant representations, such as working on a precedent setting financing matter that delivers needed medical supplies to the poor, arguing Kirtsaeng v. John Wiley Publishing before the U.S. Supreme Court, or having the sabotage convictions of three peace activists, including an 85-year-old nun, overturned,” Kathawala said.

Rene also described a club that the firm has implemented encouraging lawyers to reach the firm’s minimum standard for pro bono hours, saying a walk through Orrick offices around the globe will reveal attorneys proud of their work posting "20 Hours Club" stickers next to the nameplates outside their doors.
