The French government has selected the winner of a competitive bidding process to build a floating offshore wind farm in Brittany.
Orrick advised the French Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, General Directorate for Energy and Climate.
The government selected a consortium comprised of Elicio and BayWa r.e. to develop a project with the capacity of 250 MW.
It will be the first commercial floating wind farm to be awarded a remuneration supplement contract, according to a government announcement.
The wind farm will generate enough electricity to meet the needs of around 450,000 inhabitants.
The project is in line with France's objective of achieving 18 GW of capacity from offshore wind farms by 2035 and 45 GW by 2050, in particular by developing floating wind farm projects.
Geoffroy Berthon led an Orrick team that included Constance Boillot, Janina Dahmouh and Lek Regjepaj.
The team was involved in the structuring and regulatory aspects of the tendering procedure and the project, as well as in the drafting of documentation and dialogue with bidders.
The team has also been involved in other competitive bidding procedures for wind farms, both onshore and offshore, launched by the French government as part of its multiannual energy planning program.
