Orrick Adds Former CFPB Enforcer to Fintech Team

  • Melissa Baal Guidorizzi served for eight years with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, including as senior counsel for policy and strategy for CFPB enforcement
  • She joins an Orrick team that advises more than 150 fintech clients globally

Melissa’s tenure with the CFPB included key roles in shaping federal consumer financial laws that impact cryptocurrency markets and new payment technologies as well as established financial institutions. She also served nearly a decade as in-house counsel for Citigroup, defending enforcement actions and overseeing regulatory compliance initiatives.

“As an architect of the CFPB’s approach to fintech and crypto, Melissa will be an enormous asset to our clients in seeing around corners with respect to both business model design and risk mitigation,” said Daniel Forester, leader of Orrick’s Fintech practice.
