June.04.2021

American Lawyer featured Orrick partner Betsy Wang Lee in this How I Made Partner interview, highlighting her “nontraditional” career path and insights for other young lawyers on the track to partnership.

“I would encourage my younger colleagues – whether they want to make partner or not – to be bold in their ambitions and not be afraid to write their own unique stories as well,” Betsy, an IP and trademark litigator in our San Francisco office, told the publication in an in-depth Q&A.

Some other insights from Betsy:

  • On the key to business development: “At the center of my client relationships is my desire to really put myself in the place of my clients.”
  • On managing a work-life balance that enabled her to make partner: “At multiple points in my career, I wondered whether making partner was in the cards for me when it seemed like my path did not follow the straight and traditional path of many other partners at big firms. But now, having found my own footing and way here at Orrick, I realize that everyone’s journey is unique.”

Betsy has been at Orrick since joining the firm as a summer associate in 2009. She was part of the new partner class of 2020.
