Orrick Climbs 6 Places in GAR’s Ranking of the World’s Top Arbitration Practices

July.10.2020

Global Arbitration Review (GAR) has once again named Orrick to its list of the world’s top 30 international arbitration practices worldwide. GAR recognized Orrick’s increasing success in the renewable energy sector - a €41 million ICSID award for German investor SolEs Badajoz against Spain and a €7.4 million SCC award for Danish client Athena against Italy – the first time the state had been held liable over its renewable energy reforms.  Success in the setting aside by a Frankfurt court of a €30 million ICC award rendered against a client in the consumer imaging sector and defeating an attempt to vacate an ICSID award in the US courts concerning a US$200 million venture capital partnership were also highlighted.  Clients appreciated Orrick’s “deep knowledge of the gas sector” and price review mechanisms, noting that Orrick was “highly distinguishable from its competitors” being able to “cut through the white noise” and “reach the heart of the matter quickly”.  Orrick is Enel’s “first choice” for energy cases in the region and numerous clients described the team as “dedicated, intelligent and experienced”, “known for high-value work”, “invaluable” and “outstanding”. Orrick is currently handling over 50 international arbitration cases for multinationals, corporations and sovereign states, with a value in excess of US$9 billion.

The firm’s International Arbitration team is headed by Charles Adams in Geneva and Michael Bühler in Paris.
