Orrick’s Chairman Mitch Zuklie authored an article in Entrepreneur discussing the common mistakes first-time founders make. These mistakes include focusing on the technology rather than the market for it, ignoring constructive feedback and even becoming too mono-focused on the business. Mitch, who has helped companies complete hundreds of venture financings, explains that he’s “seen far more companies fail from growing too quickly. It’s more prudent to conserve capital until the company understands what the customer really wants.” He goes on to explain that “Nobody’s got a magic formula for first-time founder success. But if they can de-risk their company’s path forward by avoiding these mistakes, the chances of achieving that world-changing vision increase materially.”
