CleanCapital has acquired a 64-project, 51.2 MW operating solar and energy storage portfolio from sustainable infrastructure company Greenbacker. The portfolio spans 13 U.S. states and features a diverse array of rooftop and ground-mounted solar systems, with many projects serving municipal, university, school and hospital (MUSH) entities, as well as commercial clients.

THE COMPANY

CleanCapital is a leading independent power producer focused on distributed clean energy that develops, builds, owns, operates and invests in clean energy assets across the U.S. Drawing on more than a decade of clean energy experience and over $1.5 billion in investments, CleanCapital has assembled a diverse portfolio of operating assets and an expanding project pipeline.

THE IMPACT

The acquisition is among the largest in the company’s 10-year history and significantly expands CleanCapital’s portfolio to more than 350 operating and under-construction solar and energy storage assets. These projects provide reliable, emissions-free power while also supporting local economies, lowering energy costs and helping offtakers achieve their long-term energy goals.

“Continued investment in operating assets is critical to satisfying ever-increasing energy demand across the U.S.,” said Julia Bell, chief investment officer at CleanCapital. “This portfolio is a textbook example of both the value of distributed generation assets and the opportunities that accompany portfolios like this one. No other platform can match CleanCapital’s expertise in valuing, conducting due diligence, and managing diverse assets like these at scale.”

THE TEAM

Orrick’s Kristin Seeger led the team that advised CleanCapital. The team also included Bart Kempf, Darrell Thomas, Molly Jergenson, Zach Huey, Gil Shefer, Kayla Grant and Alex Fields.
