Good Nature Agro, a social enterprise that helps farmers in southern Africa, has closed an $8.5 million Series B financing round.

Orrick represented Good Nature Agro.

New investor OikoCredit International partnered with previous round participants Goodwell Investments and Global Partnerships, through its Eleos Social Venture Fund, to provide $8.5 million in equity.

THE COMPANY

Founded in 2014, Good Nature Agro is a for-profit social enterprise that believes in farmer-centric impact.

It works with small-scale farmers to supply the region with high-quality legume seed and commodities, finance and training, with the aim of moving farmers from poverty into the middle-class.

THE IMPACT

The company said it plans to use the capital to invest in deeper engagement and reintegration of whole farm income, develop genetic solutions to deliver greater yields and resilience and pursue innovations that keep farmers at the center of agricultural supply chains.

“Good Nature has broken the boundaries of most brick-and-mortar agribusinesses by engaging the full value chain – connecting growers, aggregators, processors and even consumers on their needs”, said Carl Jensen, Co-Founder and CEO.

“We are a tech-enabled business that still values personal, face-to-face relationships and being in the fields and factories with our partners. The investors in this round believe in that approach and see the potential for tremendous growth in agriculture throughout the region.”

THE TEAM

The Orrick team that advised Good Nature Agro included Natasha Ahmed, Andrew Erskine, Christopher Grew, Elizabeth Gavin, Jason Wu, Perry Teicher and Chelsea Smith.
