Orrick advised French start-up Lalilo and its divesting shareholders on the company’s acquisition by U.S.-based Renaissance Learning, Inc. (Renaissance).

Founded in 2016 by Laurent Jolie, Amine Mezzour and Benjamin Abdi, Lalilo offers teachers and K-2 students a web application in SaaS mode dedicated to learn-to-read, notably allowing students with learning difficulties to benefit from individualized exercises through innovative research-based technology. By becoming the first French subsidiary of Renaissance, which has been offering educational solutions since 1986 and is currently used in more than a third of U.S. schools and in more than 100 countries globally, Lalilo plans to accelerate its development worldwide, particularly in the United States, with the aim of reaching 10 million student users in 2023. Lalilo also intends to invest in R&D and recruitment.

Orrick has been supporting Lalilo since its Series A round in 2019. The Orrick team advising Lalilo on this transaction includes partner Benjamin Cichostepski and associates Rena Kakon, Florent Lewkowicz, Lionel Simonet and Lea Menaut.
