DHS Briefing on Cybersecurity - Sedona Working Group Series

Partner Douglas H. Meal moderated a discussion on recent government cybersecurity initiatives following a town hall hosted by the Sedona Conference’s Data Security and Privacy Liability Working Group (WG11). The town hall featured Daniel Sutherland, the Chief Counsel for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Daniel spoke about actions in recent months to address the current cybersecurity threat landscape. In the town hall and the post-discussion, Doug and Daniel covered topics, including:

  • Executive Order 14028, “Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity”
  • Eleven provisions enhancing CISA’s authorities and responsibilities included in The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021
  • $650 million for cybersecurity improvements included in The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021
