Orrick Adds Financial Regulatory Partner in London

• Sumit Indwar joins Orrick in London to serve as a full-service regulatory advisor and collaborate with the firm’s market-leading finance teams, including in the areas of collateralized loan obligation, asset-backed lending, fintech and venture capital.
• Sumit has decades of experience advising on the regulatory issues that arise in connection with the most novel UK and cross-border financial products and transactions. His practice encompasses the full lifecycle of financial services legal and regulatory matters, including licensing, ongoing conduct of business issues, regulatory change implementation, governance within financial institutions, payments and digital assets, the cross-border sale of financial products, market misconduct and AML. He also frequently advises on the regulatory aspects of M&A, corporate finance and banking transactions.
• His clients include investment banks, asset/wealth managers, retail banks, fintechs and private equity/other fund sponsors.
• Sumit joins from Kirkland & Ellis, where he was a partner. Prior to Kirkland, he was a partner at Linklaters, where he practiced for 20 years in London, Hong Kong and Singapore, including serving as head of its Hong Kong Financial Regulation Group for six years.
• Sumit is the eighth lateral partner addition to Orrick’s London finance team in the past 12 months, following fund finance partner Polly O’Brien; asset-backed securitization partners, Suzanne Bell and William Bibby in May; and a 4-partner CLO and asset-backed lending team led by David Quirolo last October. Altogether, the firm has more than doubled the size of its transatlantic structured financial practice to 102 lawyers, including the addition of 16 partners. Sumit is also the firm’s third financial regulatory hire in the past three months, following the new Head of Fintech Licensing Lisa Lanham in Miami and payments advisor Obrea Poindexter in Washington, D.C.
