Orrick Recruits Life Sciences & Tech Advisor Gregg Griner to Lead Boston Corporate Practice

September.04.2019

Continuing the growth of Orrick’s Boston office, the firm announced today that Life Sciences and Technology advisor Gregg Griner has joined the firm to lead the Boston Corporate practice. Gregg, who joins from Gunderson Dettmer, is the 8th partner addition to Orrick’s Boston office since its January launch. He joins a market-leading cybersecurity and privacy team from Ropes & Gray and a nationally recognized IP litigation team from Fish & Richardson.

“We entered Boston because it is a rich market for life sciences and tech-focused talent, and we have been delighted to add founding teams that include our Chambers Band 1 cyber & privacy team and top tier IP team. We’re thrilled to now add life sciences and tech corporate and M&A capabilities, and under Gregg’s leadership, grow the practice,” said Don Keller, Orrick’s Technology & Innovation Sector Leader.

Gregg represents life sciences and tech companies in all stages of the corporate life cycle, from startups to public companies. He advises on financings, corporate governance, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, strategic partnerships and initial and follow-on public offerings. Gregg also counsels VC firms in their formation and fundraising efforts, as well as in their investments in early and later stage companies and in complex leveraged transactions and restructurings and leading investment banks in their underwriting of public equity and debt offerings.

“Orrick’s strategy is focused on building top-tier sector-focused practices globally, attracting top talent and innovating in the delivery of legal services. It’s aligned with what the most disruptive companies value today – and I’m really excited to work closely with the Orrick team on both coasts, as well as overseas, to build on this tremendous offering from Boston,” noted Gregg.

“Gregg is deeply respected in the Boston market and brings a top-quality transactional practice with a strong roster of clients. He’s a terrific cultural fit, and we look forward to working with him to launch and grow our corporate practice in Boston,” added Heather Egan Sussman, Orrick’s Boston Office Leader.

Orrick ranks #3 globally for venture capital (Pitchbook) and #2 globally for M&A by deal count (Bloomberg) for the first half of 2019. The firm acts for 10 of the Forbes 25 public tech companies and 2,700+ emerging companies and investors, including 400 life science companies globally. Gregg’s addition follows the arrival of Stephen Thau, a former co-chair of Morrison & Foerster’s Life Sciences Group, in April.
