Aly offers practical solutions to difficult legal challenges. He partners with clients on their complex real estate acquisitions, dispositions, financings, joint ventures, equity investments and commercial leases.

Aly’s practice encompasses all aspects of commercial real estate investment from single asset and portfolio acquisitions and dispositions to the formation of real estate funds and the origination of mortgage and mezzanine financing.  Aly has extensive experience structuring and negotiating joint venture and preferred equity agreements as well as commercial leasing.  As noted in Aly’s engagements below, his experience covers a variety of asset types including residential, mixed-use, commercial, hospitality and industrial properties.

Aly has represented a number of hedge funds and private equity funds on their office leases in Manhattan and is an experienced negotiator dealing with the city’s largest landlords, including SL Green Realty Corp., Vornado Realty Trust, Tishman Speyer and Boston Properties. He has also been engaged by a number of major landlords, including Equity Office Properties (a subsidiary of The Blackstone Group), Callahan Capital Partners and The Georgetown Company, in connection with leasing office and retail space in Class A properties and is involved in all aspects of the leasing process (including brokerage and agency agreements).

In the 2020 Real Estate category of Legal 500 US, a client stated that he is "particularly knowledgeable, a great negotiator, excellent problem solver, and quick to turn documents all while maintaining a demeanor that is tough when it needs to be and pleasant when tough is not necessary."     • China Investment Corporation and Invesco in connection with the acquisition of a $1 billion minority interest in 1221 Sixth Avenue, New York, New York.
    • Cerberus Capital Management and Chatham Lodging Trust in connection with the $1.3 billion sale of the Innkeepers hotel portfolio.
    • Phoenix Realty Group in connection with the $570 million sale to and subsequent joint venture with The Blackstone Group with respect to a 16 property multifamily portfolio.
    • Arel Capital in connection with equity investments with respect to various residential, office, retail and mixed used properties in New York, Houston and Denver.
    • State Street Global Advisors in connection with its role for a $3.6 billion cross-border merger between Hudson’s Bay Company (TSX: HBC) and Signa Retail Holdings.
    • One of the world’s largest asset managers on billions of dollars’ worth of acquisitions and dispositions, including a joint venture with Normandy Real Estate Partners for the $128.4 million acquisition of Gantry Point, a vintage 9-story industrial property in Long Island City, Queens, which will be redeveloped into an office building and the $276 million sale of a large office building located in Boston's burgeoning Seaport District.
    • Tokyo-based Shimizu Corporation on its inaugural NY office investment - the $147 million acquisition of the Albano Building, a high-rise office tower in Manhattan, from the Vanbarton Group.
    • Joint venture between Tokyo Trust Capital Co., as advisor to a Japanese investor, and MC Real Estate Partners, a New York-based owner/operator, on the approximately $100 million acquisition of 434 Broadway, a fully leased office and retail building in the SoHo submarket of New York City, from Savanna.
    • Japan-based Tokyo Trust Capital Co., Ltd, in connection with its joint venture with Meritage Properties for the $54 million acquisition and $25 million financing of an eleven-story office building in the heart of Washington, D.C.
    • Canadian investment advisor, Bentall Kennedy, in connection with multiple industrial acquisitions in the tri-state area.

    Real Estate Finance:

    • Blackstone Mortgage Trust Inc. and SL Green Realty Corp. in connection with the origination of $376 million mortgage and mezzanine loans to a joint venture led by Kushner Companies, CIM Group and LIVWRK for the acquisition of the iconic Watchtower building in Brooklyn.
    • Column Financial (Credit Suisse) in connection with the origination of $180 million mortgage and mezzanine loans to The Sapir Organization for the acquisition of the NoMo Soho Hotel in Manhattan.
    • Kyo-ya Hotels & Resorts in obtaining $1.85 billion in refinancing a portfolio of landmark hotels located in Hawaii and California, including the Sheraton Waikiki and The Royal Hawaiian.

    Landlord Leasing:

    • The Georgetown Company for the initial lease up of 787 11th Avenue, including leases with Nissan North America and Pershing Square Capital Management.
    • Callahan Capital Partners and Ivanhoe Cambridge for office and retail leasing matters at 3 Bryant Park and 1211 Avenue of the Americas including transactions with News Corp., Ropes & Gray LLP, Whole Foods, Tourneau, US Bank and

    Tenant Leasing:

    • One of the world’s largest companies and a leader in the technology and software industry with multiple data center leases worth billions of dollars across the Americas.
    • HQ Trivia, a leading mobile app trivia game creator, in connection with its headquarters and broadcast studios.
    • Sergio Rossi for their lease at 680 Madison Avenue.
    • Zooba, a popular Egyptian fast-casual restaurant, for their first U.S. location in Nolita.
    • Orrick for its new office in Boston.
