Orrick was recognized with the “Technology, Media and Telecommunications Deal of the Year” award at the ALB Japan Law Awards 2021 for its role in representing NTT DOCOMO, Japan's largest wireless telephone operator, on its sale pursuant to an approximately $40 billion tender offer by its parent company, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT), one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world. The ALB Japan Law Awards pay tribute to the outstanding performance of private practitioners and in-house counsel in Japan and around the region.
The tender offer was the largest-ever for a Japanese company and involved our advising NTT DOCOMO on, among other things, U.S. cross-border regulatory requirements related to the transaction. Orrick’s cross-border team was led by Hiroshi Sarumida, with support from Richard Smith and Harry Clark and assistance from Asami Ono and Kei Kato.
