We’re Mansfield Certified Plus for the Second Year in a Row

September.04.2019

The Diversity Lab announced the results of Mansfield Rule 2.0 and we have achieved Mansfield Certification Plus for the second time. Certification Plus indicates that we have at least 30 percent diverse lawyer representation in a notable number of our current leadership roles and committees.

“We are grateful to Caren Ulrich Stacy and the Diversity Lab for leading the incredibly successful adoption of the Mansfield Rule. This program is a leading example of the power of collaboration among law firms and corporate legal departments to drive progress on diversity and inclusion,” said Orrick Chairman Mitch Zuklie.

Mansfield Rule Certification indicates that firms have affirmatively considered at least 30 percent women, lawyers of color and LGBTQ+ lawyers for leadership and governance roles, equity partner promotions, senior lateral positions and formal pitches.

As a Mansfield Certified firm, Orrick will have the opportunity for recently promoted diverse partners to participate in a client forum and connect with and learn from leading in-house counsel. More than 60 corporate legal departments have signed on to support this initiative. Orrick will also participate in Mansfield 3.0, which will be expanded to include lawyer with disabilities.

The Mansfield Rule was one of the ideas generated at the Women in Law Hackathon, hosted by Diversity Lab in collaboration with Bloomberg Law and Stanford Law School in the spring of 2016. It’s named for Arabella Mansfield, the first woman admitted to practice law in the United States, and is modeled after the NFL’s Rooney Rule.
