June.19.2019

Chambers USA has named Orrick its Privacy & Data Security Law Firm of the Year. The award was announced June 17 as part of the Chambers USA Awards 2019 in Washington, D.C., recognizing top firms and individuals based on research from more than 200 Chambers analysts.

Orrick’s team is ranked Band 1 nationally for Privacy & Data Security in the 2019 edition of Chambers USA. One client source reported: "I find them to be excellent in terms of knowledge and practicality, providing practical solutions and advice, and that is a winning combination." Another noted: "They are experts in the field; very forward-thinking, innovative, very collaborative and business-focused."

Five Orrick privacy and cybersecurity partners are recognized in the latest Chambers USA guide, including Doug Meal (“extremely experienced… good to work with, personable and very authoritative”); Aravind Swaminathan (“extremely skilled…and consistently has the answer we need”); Heather Egan Sussman (“an expert when it comes to data security and information management”); Emily Tabatabai (“truly an expert in this space…she is unmatched”); and Tony Kim. One client told Chambers that Tony is "the best outside counsel they have ever worked with."

The team is also ranked Tier 1 for Cyber Law by The Legal 500, and Orrick is the only firm with four lawyers on Cybersecurity Docket’s Incident Response 30 for 2019.

Earlier this year, Orrick’s Cyber, Privacy & Data Innovation Practice launched the online CCPA Readiness Assessment Tool to help businesses globally determine whether they are covered by the California Consumer Privacy Act and test their compliance with the new law, which goes into effect January 1, 2020.
