Frances Cheever, an associate in Orrick's Silicon Valley office, is a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Group. Her practice focuses on patent, trademark, and trade secret litigation.

Frances recently rejoined the firm after clerking for the Honorable Ronald M. Whyte in the Northern District of California. She began her career at Orrick as a summer associate in 2011. Prior to law school, Frances taught English in Seoul, South Korea. 

  • A representative sample of cases includes:

    • Good Technology v. Mobile Iron. Frances was a member of a trial team that successfully defended MobileIron in a patent infringement action related to mobile device management technologies. After a two-week trial in the Northern District of California, the jury found that MobileIron did not infringe any of Good Technology's patents and that several of Good Technology's patents were invalid.
    • Lollicup v. Vigour Pak. Frances represented Vigour Pak, a Taiwanese company, in a contract and trademark dispute against a U.S. competitor.    
    • Synopsys v. Sabharwal. Frances assisted in securing injunctive relief against a former employee to halt trade secret misappropriation and data breaches.
