Orrick Named to Fortune’s Best Workplaces for Diversity

December.05.2016

Orrick was one of only two law firms named to Fortune’s Best Workplaces for Diversity, the latest recognition we have received for our commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. Fortune ranked us #26 overall out of 50 companies on the list.

The Fortune Best Workplaces For Diversity list was based on how positively women, minorities and LGBTQ employees view their workplace overall, an endorsement of the emphasis Orrick places on diversity and inclusion as a cornerstone of our culture – from recruitment and training to the composition of our leadership team.

“We know how important diversity is to our clients and we are thrilled to be ranked among the nation’s corporate leaders in our commitment to a diverse workplace,” said Mitch Zuklie, Orrick’s chairman and CEO.

Earlier this year, Fortune selected Orrick as one of the 100 Best Companies to work for, as well as to its list of 100 Best Workplaces for Millennials, a top 50 Best Workplace for College Graduates and a top 30 Best Workplace to Retire From.

The recognition from Fortune for our diversity efforts builds on other accolades received this year. Orrick was ranked #13 out of 220 firms by The American Lawyer’s 2016 Diversity Scorecard, #2 Best Law Firm for diversity in the most recent Vault rankings and ranked a 2016 Top Performer by the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, a group of more than 250 chief legal officers and law firm managing partners, including Mitch.

This week, Orrick also earned a perfect score of 100 percent for the eleventh consecutive year in the 2017 Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s annual Corporate Equality Index and Best Places to Work survey.

The leadership of our firm is notable for its diversity. Five of 11 of our Board members are diverse, 33 percent of our Management Committee and Board members are women and 40 percent of our business units are led by women. This has also held true for our recruiting efforts – our 2016 summer associate class was composed of 30 percent minorities and 58 percent women and our new partner class was more than 50 percent women.

Orrick sponsors several diversity programs, including the Rising Leaders Program, which matches firm leaders with high-performing women and minority partners to prepare these individuals for leadership positions in the firm.
