A Juneteenth Conversation With Soledad O’Brien

June.19.2020

The Black Lawyers of Orrick hosted a Juneteenth conversation with distinguished journalist, speaker, author and philanthropist Soledad O’Brien. In an inspiring exchange with Orrick lawyer Tierra Piens, Soledad explores what it means to be Black in America and how we can work together to dismantle systemic racism. Orrick lawyer Kelly Newsome provides an introduction and history of Juneteenth in the United States.

In the video, Soledad and Tierra talk about The PowHERful Foundation, which was created by Soledad and Brad Raymond and has served over 4,000 young women since 2011. PowHERful’s mission is to “get young women to, and through, college.” You can learn more about the PowHERful foundation here.
