Matthew La Violette

Matthew La Violette is a Strategist in Orrick’s Public Policy Group. He draws on a blend of legislative, regulatory, and in-house government affairs experience to help clients advance their policy priorities and navigate an evolving political and regulatory landscape.

Before joining Orrick, Matthew served as a government affairs professional at a healthcare company, where he helped shape public policy and participated in legislative campaigns at both the federal and state levels. Earlier in his career, he interned with the United States Senate Committee on Finance during his graduate studies and with a Washington, D.C.–based consulting firm. He also spent several years on the compliance team of a Fortune 100 company, analyzing legislative and regulatory developments across multiple states and at the federal level.

Matthew received a B.A. in political science from St. Norbert College and a master's in public policy from American University’s School of Public Affairs. While at American University, he served as a graduate assistant to Professor and President Emeritus Neil Kerwin, conducting regulatory research for the sixth edition of Kerwin and Scott Furlong’s Rulemaking: The Creation of Law and Policy by Government Agencies.
