David Chamberlin joined Orrick in 2021 as Managing Director of the Strategic Communications Advisory Team, where alongside Orrick's lawyers, he advises the firm’s clients on communications strategies and reputation management around the globe.
He has spent his career as a communications and marketing professional partnering with corporate leaders to strategically drive business results, build trust and credibility, strengthen relationships with stakeholders and successfully navigate and mitigate the critical issues affecting their organizations. At Orrick, he works as part of Orrick’s legal advisory teams, including with the firm’s litigation, regulatory and transactional practices. David also provides strategic business and communications direction to clients facing critical situations by helping them address the reputational challenges and maximize the communications opportunities affecting their organizations and stakeholders.
Prior to joining Orrick, David served as Chief Marketing Officer at SonicWall, a global cybersecurity leader, where he revamped SonicWall’s marketing, communications and government relations functions. Before that, he served as Chief Communications Officer of The PNC Financial Services Group, where he transformed and modernized the function and led internal and external communications, corporate social responsibility/ESG messaging, social media strategies, sponsorships and employee recognition among others. He has led public relations and partners communications for the credit card business at JPMorgan Chase and served as the head of global communications for Nortel.
As a consultant, he helped launch and lead the global Data Security & Privacy Group at Edelman, as well as serving as the general manager of Edelman’s Dallas and Shanghai, China offices, and as a leader of the firm’s global Financial Comms & Special Circumstances and Crisis & Risk practices. He has also served as the North American head of MSL Group’s Issues & Crisis Management Practice.
In these roles, he has served as a trusted advisor to the C-suite and Boards across numerous industries around the world. He has developed the communications strategies for numerous Congressional hearings, corporate layoffs, federal investigations, mergers and divestitures, multi-country recalls, executive transitions, organizational change management initiatives, cybersecurity and privacy incidents, and a number of legal and financial crises.
David has appeared on CNN, ABC, PBS and several other broadcast outlets, and his writings have run in numerous outlets including The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, USA Today, The Los Angeles Times, Newsweek and Forbes.com. His work has earned numerous awards including being named to PRWeek’s Global Power Book and 40 Under 40, as well as earning their inaugural Corporate Public Relations Team of the Year award. He is regular speaker at conferences and universities around the country.
He serves on the board of the Plano Bicycle Association and is a member of the Responsible Information Management (RIM) Council at the Ponemon Institute. He has also served as a member of The Seminar, International Association of Privacy Professionals, and the Arthur W. Page Society. He has served on the boards of The Dallas Regional Chamber, The Senator John Heinz History Center and the PNC Foundation.
A native of Springfield, Ohio, and a graduate of Taylor University, David has three children and lives with his wife in the Dallas area. Away from the office, he enjoys spending time with his family, listening to music and cycling.
