As part of an M&A team, Maria is involved in virtually every aspect of a transaction, running the deals from initial conception to consummation. She serves as the primary point of contact and is responsible for shepherding the transaction to closing. Maria works hard to keep the focus of all parties on the desired outcome, pace the transaction to achieve the agreed milestones and deliver seamless service to prevent your M&A deal from falling through the cracks.
In addition to M&A and Private Equity, Maria is also a member of the firm’s International Trade and Compliance and Russia practices. She focuses on cross-border M&A, private equity, joint ventures and strategic investments. Maria has also advised and worked on matters involving the application of economic sanctions, CFIUS reviews of foreign investments, export control regulations and conflict minerals reporting.
Maria draws upon her experience in Washington, D.C., Moscow (Russia) and Almaty (Kazakhstan) to handle complex international transactions and close deals in both emerging and developed markets.
Prior to joining Orrick, Maria worked at the Office of the General Counsel of a multilateral development bank. In that role, she invested in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia by utilizing loans, equity investments and guarantees as its primary instruments. Maria also handled tax and legal matters as a senior consultant at one of the Big Four accounting firms. During that time she designed and implemented an export compliance program for an international development firm and a U.S. government contractor.
