Elaine is a dual qualified, multilingual dispute resolution lawyer who “stands head and shoulders above the rest” Asia Pacific Legal 500 with over 23 years of experience advising clients on litigation, arbitration and investigation matters.

Elaine has practiced in Singapore, Paris and Tokyo, representing clients in cross-border disputes across a range of industries, with particular focus on the energy, technology, infrastructure and manufacturing sectors. Elaine has represented construction consortiums in ICC arbitrations in relation to EPC projects, often under FIDIC conditions and Japanese multinationals in arbitrations relating to large infrastructure projects throughout Asia. These disputes have been governed by the laws of numerous countries, including, Singapore, Japan, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, France, England & Wales, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, British Virgin Islands and New Zealand under all the main arbitral rules (SIAC, ICC, LCIA, JCAA, HKIAC, VIAC, TAI and UNCITRAL).

In addition to her work as counsel, Elaine also sits as arbitrator and leads on multi-jurisdictional investigations advising clients on a wide range of issues relating to bribery, corruption, fraud, competition and compliance. Elaine is experienced in handling both internal investigations as well as investigations by law enforcement and regulatory authorities.

    • Representing a consortium comprising three Japanese companies in an ICC arbitration seated in Singapore against the employer in relation to an EPC project for the construction of a power plant and port in Bangladesh
    • Representing a Japanese trading house in disputes with the Tunisian national electricity and gas company and its Turkish subcontractor in relation to the design and construction of a power plant in Tunisia.
    • Advising a Japanese trading house on a dispute with the seller in relation to a 10-year agreement to purchase LNG cargoes.
    • Representing a Japanese trading house in VIAC arbitration with the employer in relation to delays and disruptions on an EPC project for the construction of an urban railway in Vietnam.
    • Representing a multinational sports promotion company in a SIAC arbitration in Singapore arising from the termination of its partnership agreement with a Japanese technology conglomerate.
    • Representing a Japanese trading house on anti-bribery and corruption due diligence and negotiations with joint venture partner in India in respect of a joint bid for an infrastructure project in Bangladesh.
    • Representing a Japanese automotive manufacturer in parallel investigations by the European Commission and the UK Competition and Markets Authority in relation to suspected collusion in the recycling of end-of-life vehicles.
    • Representing a Japanese trading house on an investigation by the European Commission into cartel conduct in relation to the woodchip market in Europe.
    • Advising a Japanese electric company and a Japanese trading house on litigation in the New Zealand courts over claims arising from damage to a geothermal power plant.
    • Representing a leading technology company in a SIAC arbitration against minority shareholders in Indonesia regarding fraudulent breaches of the shareholders agreement and share purchase agreement
