Matthew advises on a range of matters with a focus on power (CCGT, biomass, wind, energy from waste, solar PV and hydroelectric) and infrastructure projects, M&A and energy commodities.

Matthew has extensive experience working in-house with clients. He has completed client secondments to the legal teams of three international companies (BNP Paribas - Trading Team, ENGIE - Gas and Power Team, Petrochina International - Gas, Power and LNG Team).

    • Energetický a Průmyslový Holding in relation to the financing, acquisition and conversion to biomass of the 420MW Lynemouth coal fired power station in Northumberland, UK, including the negotiation of fuel supply and power offtake arrangements and the provision of regulatory advice.
    • Azito Energie S.A. on the EPC, O&M and Concession Agreement elements of the expansion of the 300MW Azito gas-fired power project in Côte d’Ivoire.
    • Bioenergy Infrastructure Group on its investment in a £200m, 25MW Refuse Derived Fuel gasification facility and pre-treatment plant in Hull, East Yorkshire.
    • A sponsor in relation to the financing and development of the 15MW Drakelow RDF gasification facility in Burton upon Trent, UK including the negotiation of construction, operation, management, fuel supply and power offtake arrangements..
    • A Sponsor in relation to the financing, development, construction, LNG supply, power offtake and operational arrangements of two LNG-to-power facilities situated in Yemen and Guinea.
    • The Shah Deniz consortium on the financing and development of the Shah Deniz Phase 2 project in Azerbaijan and gas pipeline systems to Italy.
    • ENGIE Global Markets on general short and long-term gas and power trading activities and numerous corporate power purchase agreements and ancillary offtake optimisation agreements, which involved a 12-month secondment to ENGIE’s Paris office.
    • PetroChina International on general short and long-term gas, power and LNG trading activities, which involved a 12-month secondment to PetroChina’s London office
    • The following entities in relation to their UK and continental gas and power trading activities: BNP Paribas, SOCAR, BTG Pactual, Cargill, Gazprom and RWE.
    • Infracapital on the EPC, O&M and management aspects of its joint venture with Nokia to build, own and operate a fibre optic broadbank network across Poland.
    • BlackRock on the €40 million acquisition and €310 million debt financing of the Tellenes windfarm project (the largest wind farm in Norway), including the negotiation of construction, operation and power offtake arrangements.
    • Numerous Sponsors on the EPC, O&M, power offtake and management arrangements in relation to the development and/or acquisition of numerous European-based solar portfolios with an aggregate power output of 200+ MW.
    • A consortium of lenders in relation to the financing and development of an onshore wind farm in Mongolia. •EnergieKontor on its acquisitions of Lilbourne Wind Farm and New Rides Wind Farm, both situated in the UK.
