Vanessa Sorrentino is a litigation associate whose practice focuses on intellectual property matters, with a particular focus in copyright and trademark infringement . She has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in federal and state court, as well as in arbitration, bringing a versatile perspective shaped by experience on both sides of complex disputes.

Vanessa has developed significant experience representing a range of clients, from artists and small businesses to large technology companies. Her experience spans from drafting complaints and devising case strategy through fact and expert discovery, summary judgment, and settlement.

Her practice encompasses disputes across a range of industry sectors, including fashion and e-commerce, hospitality, and technology. Vanessa also brings particular experience litigating against foreign entities, having handled matters involving global fashion conglomerates with extensive foreign operations.

More recently, Vanessa works on novel legal issues involving fair use, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and generative artificial intelligence.

Prior to joining Orrick, Vanessa served as a law clerk to the Honorable Matthew J. Skahill, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, and to the Honorable Jack M. Sabatino, Presiding Judge of the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division. After her clerkships, she also worked at a boutique firm in New York specializing in intellectual property matters.
