Special Counsel
Washington, D.C.
Eric advises companies and investors operating at the intersection of national security and emerging technology. From startups developing next-generation defense capabilities to established industry leaders and investment funds, he helps clients navigate the complexities of the defense industrial base and seize opportunities in a rapidly evolving market.
Eric brings more than 20 years of experience spanning combat leadership, national security policy, government finance and private practice. He offers a rare combination of firsthand military experience, deep government insight and transactional expertise—helping clients understand what government needs, how capital can meet those needs and how to turn shifting national security priorities into commercial opportunity.
Prior to joining Orrick, Eric was special counsel at Baker Botts, where he advised on federal investment, capital markets, and emerging companies and venture capital. Previously, he served as a Managing Director at the Department of Defense’s Office of Strategic Capital (OSC), helping build the infrastructure to deploy capital into critical national security technologies. He developed procedures for project development, underwriting, credit risk management, portfolio operations, and helped establish a national security risk screening policy alongside Defense Department intelligence and counterintelligence professionals.
Eric began his career as an Army officer leading soldiers in the 101st Airborne Division in Iraq and Afghanistan. He went on to serve in policy and intelligence roles at the National Counterterrorism Center and as a senior civilian at Joint Special Operations Command. He brings that experience to clients working to build, finance, and match the technologies shaping the future of defense with the users who need it most.
