Orrick Deepens London Tech Team with Fintech Regulatory Advisor

  • Dan Jones has joined the firm as a partner focused on providing regulatory counsel to fintech companies, financial institutions and others, in particular payment service providers, e-money issuers, crypto-asset issuers, wallets and exchanges.
  • He is the third addition to Orrick’s global Fintech team in the past two months, following the arrivals of former U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau enforcer Melissa Baal Guidorizzi, and Dave McGill, a fintech, crypto and financial services litigator and regulatory enforcement adviser.
  • Dan is the sixth partner to join Orrick’s London office since 2021 and will be part of the firm’s tech practice, which has ranked No. 1 in Europe for 6+ years.

Dan advises on the full range of regulatory issues from licensing, authorization and structuring, to implementation, cross border reporting and M&A regulatory due diligence. His recent work includes counseling on the development of a digital only retail bank and preparing the regulatory license application for a global payment service provider. Dan joins Orrick from Baker Botts and previously practiced with Ernst & Young and Clifford Chance.

“Dan is another great addition to our team, fortifying our fintech and payments regulatory expertise, which is essential to our clients’ strategies,” said Shawn Atkinson, co-leader of Orrick’s Technology Companies Group. “The demand in fintech and payments has not let up, and we believe it will continue to grow.”

“Orrick is the dominant tech firm in the UK and European market, and I’m incredibly excited to join the team at an incredibly dynamic time in the global regulatory and enforcement landscape,” said Dan. “The talent the firm is assembling in the fintech space is truly impressive.”

Orrick advises more than 150 public and venture backed fintech clients globally, as well as their investors, and financial institutions and others in the fintech and crypto space. Orrick is recognized as a leading firm for fintech and payments in Chambers FinTech 2022.
