Melissa’s tenure with the CFPB included key roles in shaping federal consumer financial laws that impact cryptocurrency markets and new payment technologies as well as established financial institutions. She also served nearly a decade as in-house counsel for Citigroup, defending enforcement actions and overseeing regulatory compliance initiatives.
“As an architect of the CFPB’s approach to fintech and crypto, Melissa will be an enormous asset to our clients in seeing around corners with respect to both business model design and risk mitigation,” said Daniel Forester, leader of Orrick’s Fintech practice.
“Orrick brings to fintech an unsurpassed combination of tech and finance leadership,” Melissa said. “I’m excited to work with this team to build out a top tier regulatory offering for the fintech and crypto space.”
Melissa is the 12th partner the firm has added in DC since the beginning of last year, adding talent in tech, life sciences, antitrust, M&A, white collar, structured finance (including a team that focused on securitization for online lenders) and life sciences.
