Orrick advised M12 and Haniel on their investments in the $30 million Series B financing round of German robotics startup Wandelbots. In addition to M12 and Haniel, the round included investors 83North (lead investor), Next47 and Alexander Rinke (CEO of software company Celonis), and existing investors Paua Ventures, EQT Ventures and Atlantic Labs.

Wandelbots is a Dresden-based developer of a platform and tool that make it possible for everyone to teach robots fast, easily and inexpensively, even without technical expertise.

M12 (formerly Microsoft Ventures) is the corporate venture arm of Microsoft and invests in enterprise software companies in the Series A through C funding stages. As part of its value-add to portfolio companies, M12 offers unique access to strategic go-to-market resources and relationships globally.

Franz Haniel & Cie. GmbH is a leading family equity company based in Duisburg, Germany. The company’s portfolio consists of six divisions, each with a market-leading position in their sector. In 2018, Haniel Group generated sales of €4.6 billion with around 18,800 employees.

M12 was advised by an Orrick team led by partners Jörg Ritter (Munich) and Greg Heibel (Silicon Valley), who previously advised M12 on its investment in Berlin-based AI startup TwentyBN. They were supported by partner Christine Kaniak and managing associate Andrea Schlote (both Munich).

Haniel was advised by an Orrick team led by partner Sven Greulich (Düsseldorf), who previously advised Haniel on a number of venture and venture fund investments. The team also included counsel Carsten Bernauer, senior associate Johannes Rüberg and associate Onur Öztürk (all Düsseldorf).
