Patrizio Messina Named Italy’s Lawyer of the Year

Italian legal magazine TopLegal named Orrick partner Patrizio Messina Italy’s Lawyer of the Year during the publication’s 13th annual TopLegal Awards in Milan.

Winners are selected by a panel of TopLegal researchers and in-house lawyers from domestic and international companies and banks.

TopLegal recognized Patrizio as Italy’s foremost expert on nonperforming loans and cited his role in the restructuring of Banca Popolare di Bari and the rescue of Carige. During the research period, Patrizio advised on several important corporate transactions on behalf of Italian banks, including the establishment of Iccrea banking group, demonstrating regular and effective interactions with the Regulation Authorities. He recently wrote a book, Finance for SMEs: European Regulation and Capital Markets Union, about alternative financing tools for small and medium enterprises in Europe.

Earlier this month, Patrizio, along with Orrick partner Alessandro De Nicola, was named to Legalcommunity’s list of the most influential and powerful lawyers in Italy in recognition of his innovation in the finance markets. Legalcommunity has recognized Patrizio as Structured Finance Lawyer of the Year two consecutive times, this year calling him “undoubtedly one of the greatest Italian banking experts.”
