Orrick’s Norm Hile Honored with Prestigious Ninth Circuit John P. Frank Award

July.12.2019

Congratulations to Senior Counsel Norm Hile on being selected to receive the Ninth Circuit’s John P. Frank Award, which recognizes an outstanding lawyer practicing in the federal courts of the western U.S. Norm will receive the award during the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference’s opening session on July 22.

In announcing the award, the Ninth Circuit noted that it recognizes a lawyer who has “demonstrated outstanding character and integrity; dedication to the rule of law; proficiency as a trial and appellate lawyer; promoting collegiality in the bench and bar; and a lifetime of services to the federal courts of the circuit.”

Norm, a litigator in our Sacramento office, was a partner for more than 30 years with the firm, representing clients in the trial and appellate courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. Over the past decade, he has led a pro bono team representing California death row inmate Kevin Cooper in his appeals and clemency petition, successfully persuading the governor earlier this year to order new DNA testing of the original trial evidence.
